Split a large .pst file in Microsoft Outlook 2007

Here Is An Important Trick to Make You Comfortable While You Working With Microsoft Outlook 2007.

You Might Have faced some performance issues while working with Outlook 2007 which can cause Outlook to stop responding or it became very slow.
This non responsive behaviour of outlook can occur while sending, receiving, deleting or moving mails. The major Reason for this Malfunction is that the size of the .pst file has increased more than 2 GB.
This increased size of pst file can later cause the corruption and you may lose your Outlook data.

For proper functionality of Outlook it is required to reduce the size of the large .pst file to save it from corruption. One of the methods to reduce the size of a large pst file is to split the file. PST file which have exceeded the 2 GB limit can be split into multiple small .pst files

Ways to Split large .pst file into multiple smaller .pst files. In Outlook 2007 you can split a large .pst file into multiple smaller .pst files by following below mentioned steps.

A. Move items to a new .pst file by using “archive” feature

Select .pst file in navigation pane.
*Click File menu –> Archive –> Archive this folder and all sub folders and select a folder from the list
*Select a date from the Archive items older than
*Browse to specify a destination path and name for the new PST file

This new PST file is stored in Mail folder list as Archive folders but if you want to change the display name of .pst file then follow these steps.

Right click on Archive Folders, Select Properties –> Advanced
In the Personal Folder dialog box enter the new name for the file
B. Move items to a new .pst file by using “Move to Folder” feature

Select File menu –> New –> Outlook data file –> Office Outlook Personal Folders File
Enter a new file name and path for .pst file
In Create Microsoft Personal Folders, enter the .pst file that will be used in mail folder list
Select items in the folder to move in the new .pst file
Click Edit –> Move to folder –> Move items –> New –> Create new folder, enter a name for .pst file and in Select where to place the folder click new .pst file
Now in Move items select the new folder in the new pst file and click ok.
By following above steps you can split pst file into multiple small .pst files. But, if even after following these steps you are not able to split a pst file then a third-party tool can be used which can enhance the performance of outlook.
