Speed Of Light

 The speed of light, usually denoted by c, is a physical constant important in many areas of physics.It Is Maximum Speed At Which Energy ,Matter Can Travel .Its the Fundamental Constant In Physics.
As We All Know That Light travels At a Speed Of 3*108 meters Per second .Which Would Be Precisely Around 299,792.46 In a Second Or 1,079252956 Km Per Hour .
So Far We Didn't Even Made Any Significant Close To The Speed Of Light.Nothing can go faster than the speed of light. As for matter, it can never reach the speed of light,To Reach The Speed Of Light a Space Craft Should Have Infinite Supply Of Energy Or Zero Mass .
Einstein theory of relativity address that question quite well. Mass will increase exponentially so that the velocity will reduce, until mass becomes an infinite value when the velocity reach light speed.
Both Are Impossible In reality.Photos And Electrons which Have Infinitely Small Mass Move At Fraction Of Light Speed.And even if the physicists tell you it can't be done.

Space Travel Always Been a Dream Of Astronomers How Ever It would Take A Life Long to Travel To Pluto And Even More With Present Fastest moving Space Crafts.Travelling at light Speed Or Even Close To Or At least the Fraction of Light Speed is Fictitious Thing.
Hope That a Day May Come In Future Time Travel is Possible Just like In Star Trek.

Astronomers release the largest color image of the sky ever made

Astronomers have released the largest-ever colour image of the whole sky, stitched from seven million images, each made of 125 million pixels.

The Sloan Digital Sky Survey's latest effort tops its own record, published publicly for professional astronomers and "citizen scientists" alike.

Data from Sloan have helped to identify hundreds of millions of cosmic objects.

The release was announced at the 217th annual meeting of the American Astronomical Society in Seattle, US.

Researchers have released an animation on YouTube demonstrating how the incredibly high-resolution image is represented on the celestial sphere.

Michael Blanton, a New York University physicist who presented the work on behalf of the Sloan team, told the conference that it was difficult to overstate the breadth of data Sloan provides.

"There's something like 3,500 papers that have been written on the basis of this data set," he said.

"A few dozen of them are being presented right now, this week at this meeting. They cover topics from the very smallest stars to the most massive black holes in the universe."

Nearly half a billion stars and galaxies have already been discovered and described thanks to Sloan images, and the new release is sure to significantly increase that number.

Sloan data are also behind the Google Sky service, which allows users to scan the heavens in the same way as scanning their local streets, and the Galaxy Zoo project, which has allowed astronomy enthusiasts to characterise galaxies from their own computers.

The workhorse behind the data set, a camera comprising 125 million pixels that long held the record for highest-resolution camera in the world, has been retired.

Studies will now focus on spectrometry - unpicking new data on the basis of the colours of light that the upgraded equipment.

They include:

the Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey, which will study the periodic ripples that were left behind in the early days of the Universe
the Sloan Extension for Galactic Understanding and Exploration that measures the evidence of small galaxies on the edge of our Milky Way being swallowed up
the APO Galactic Evolution Experiment, which will study red giant stars within our Galaxy to better understand the Milky Way's overall chemical recipe
the Multi-object APO Radial Velocity Exoplanet Large-area Survey, which will spot giant planets outside our solar system in a bid to better model how planets form
But even the data that are already available, thanks to Tuesday's release, will keep astronomers of both the professional and the amateur variety busy.

"You can compare it to the National Geographic Palomar Survey of the late 1950s," Dr Blanton said.

"This is something that 50 years later is still a really important reference to astronomers; we use it ourselves to better understand our own images. SDSS is the digital version of that."

NASA's Chandra Finds Youngest Nearby Black Hole

Astronomers using NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory  have found evidence of the youngest black hole known to exist in our cosmic neighborhood. The 30-year-old black hole provides a unique opportunity to watch this type of object develop from infancy.

The black hole could help scientists better understand how massive stars explode, which ones leave behind black holes or neutron stars, and the number of black holes in our galaxy and others.

Generally Blackholes will be described in terms of Billions of years sounds crazy but this blackhole Is Just Formed 30 years ago making itself the youngest blackhole Ever found in the history of Astronmomy.

The 30-year-old object is a remnant of SN 1979C, a supernova in the galaxy M100 approximately 50 million light years from Earth. Data from Chandra, NASA's Swift satellite, the European Space Agency's XMM-Newton and the German ROSAT observatory revealed a bright source of X-rays that has remained steady during observation from 1995 to 2007. This suggests the object is a black hole being fed either by material falling into it from the supernova or a binary companion.

The scientists think SN 1979C, first discovered by an amateur astronomer in 1979, formed when a star about 20 times more massive than the sun collapsed. Many new black holes in the distant universe previously have been detected in the form of gamma-ray bursts (GRBs).

This new black hole Proves adding more power to the long standng theory that black holes are created by the collapse of large stars and the belief that they continue to be fed by residue from the explosion.
This new  discovery may give scientists new possibilites to know:

*How Black holes Are Formed??

*Under What Cirucmstances star Dies

*And Why a dying Star will sometimes create either a neutron star or a black hole.

"This may be the first time the common way of making a black hole has been observed," said co-author Abraham Loeb, also of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics. "However, it is very difficult to detect this type of black hole birth because decades of X-ray observations are needed to make the case."

The idea of a black hole with an observed age of only about 30 years is consistent with recent theoretical work. In 2005, a theory was presented that the bright optical light of this supernova was powered by a jet from a black hole that was unable to penetrate the hydrogen envelope of the star to form a GRB. The results seen in the observations of SN 1979C fit this theory very well.

Although the evidence points to a newly formed black hole in SN 1979C, another intriguing possibility is that a young, rapidly spinning neutron star with a powerful wind of high energy particles
could be responsible for the X-ray emission.

This would make the object in SN 1979C the youngest and brightest example of such a "pulsar wind nebula" and the youngest known neutron star. The Crab pulsar, the best-known example of a bright pulsar wind nebula, is about 950 years old.

"It's very rewarding to see how the commitment of some of the most advanced telescopes in space, like Chandra, can help complete the story," said Jon Morse, head of the Astrophysics
Division at NASA's Science Mission Directorate.

The results will appear in the New Astronomy journal in a paper by Patnaude, Loeb, and Christine Jones of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics. NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala., manages the Chandra program for the agency's Science Mission Directorate in Washington. The Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory controls Chandra's science and flight operations from Cambridge.

Mars carbon dioxide finding hints at ancient life

Mars the close associative of our earth was proved to be once rich in carbondioxide suggesting the life on the red planet in past,

wide spread deposits of carbonate rock are buried a few miles beneath the surface of mars,according to new research. If These deposits are abundant theywould have helped make it a much wetter and warmer place hundreds of millions of years ago.
These deposits were exposed by a massive meteorite impact ,the team believes there represent ancient sediments that were subsequently buried by volcanic activity from syrtis major.
Joseph michalski of the planetary science institute,arizona and paul niles of the nasa johnson space centre said the surface of mars is now cold,dry,acidic and inhospitable to life. Similar conditions may have persisted for billions of years suggesting for the best place to search for habitable environments is the sub surface .

The researchers said one hint of habitable conditions at depth is the presence of atmospheric methane which may have formed through hydrothermal process in the crust in the presence of carbondioxide.

First Truly Habitable Exo planet discovered -Gliese581G

Astronomers have discovered the first exoplanet which resembles earth and may support life. A team of exo planet hunter searching for a habitable exo planet at the university of california and the carnegie institution and supported by national science foundation has  recently announced the discovery of a planet,gliese 581g , which may be truly habitable orbiting in a sun like red dwarf star,gliese 581 discovered on july 25,2008.

The newly observed planet has got a mass of between 3.1 and 4.3 times that of earth,gravity found to be 1.7 times to earth.
The results obtained after 11 years of observations.coming to temperature which is neither cold nor hot ranging in between -31 and 12 using HIRES  spectrometer.
Gliese Planet is at a distance of 117.5 trillion miles, a period of 20 light years which is considered to be rather close in astronomy.

According to vogt,professor of astronomy and astrophysics at university of california said that the planet is tidally locked to star ,which means that one side always faces star,in daylight and other  facing away from star in persecutal darkness. One effect of this is to stabilize the planet's surface climate. The most habitable zone on the surface would be the are between shadow and light,known as terminator.

The scientists believe this could be a major step in exo planet discovery which may truly habitable for us.may be in future we could go on a holiday trip or make a colony there.

Did Jupiter and Saturn play Pinball with poor Uranus ??

A new study conducted by the alessendaro morbidelli and team of the cote d' azur observatory in france found that uranus,one Of the smallest planet in solar system Is been batted back and forth by the huge celestial bodies ,dominated by planet gaints jupiter and saturn.

Study suggests That poor uranus was batted badly by jupiter and Saturn before being shifted to present location. Huge planets played a pinball game with it over a 100,000 years.

Jupiter and saturn moved out of their initial orbits in the early solar system,5 million years ago scattering all small objects ,asteroids whatever comes in their way.
Mean while uranus crossed saturn's path ,which could have been bounced towards jupiter and then back to saturn . This process  repeated for three times until uranus reached its present spot.

In an alternate scenario, Jupiter and Saturn moved to their orbits over 5 million years by simply flinging away space rocks, but this would have visibly scarred the asteroid belt .

Two Asteroids came close to Earth


Two Asteroids came close to earth on Atmosphere on Wednesday within short period of time ,Us space agency said.These arge asteroids have narrowly avoided the earth after the objects passed within the moon and our planet’s orbit, Nasa scientists said.If those asteroids would hit the earth then That collision promises to create more damage than that of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima.Thank god we had a narrow escape
Nasa said the asteroids were discovered on sunday and they passed closer than the moon's distance to earth .
The first asteroid was named as 2010 Rx30 whihc measures 10 t0 20 meters and the second one called 2010 RF12, was roughly two-thirds the size of its big brother and estimated to pass within just 49,088 miles of Earth hours later.
